What Is Botanical-Infused Tallow Skincare?

Hightower Tallow Co. botanical apothecary display with handcrafted soaps, tallow creams, and botanical ingredient jars

If you've discovered tallow skincare recently, you may have noticed that not all tallow products are created the same way.

At Hightower Tallow Co., we have taken tallow skincare in a more botanical direction.

Rather than simply creating a tallow balm and adding fragrance, our approach begins much earlier—with carefully selected herbs, flowers, roots and traditional botanical ingredients that are slowly infused into our tallow.

We call this botanical-infused tallow skincare.

It's the foundation of our little apothecary and one of the things that makes Hightower different.

What Is Tallow Skincare?

Tallow is rendered animal fat that has been traditionally used for generations in soaps, balms and other household preparations.

Today, properly rendered tallow is being rediscovered as an ingredient in handcrafted skincare.

Its rich texture makes it especially suited for products such as facial balms, whipped creams, body balms, soaps and other moisturizing formulations.

But at Hightower, we wanted to take this traditional ingredient one step further.

What Does Botanical-Infused Tallow Mean?

Botanical infusion is at the heart of what we do.

Depending on the formulation, we select ingredients such as hibiscus, rosehips, calendula, rosemary, nettle leaf, horsetail, gotu kola, haritaki, frankincense and myrrh.

Rather than simply adding these botanicals to the finished product, selected dried botanicals are slowly infused with our tallow.

The infusion is then carefully strained before we continue formulating the final product.

That means the botanical infusion isn't an afterthought.

It begins with the tallow itself.

Why We Slow-Infuse Our Tallow

There are faster ways to make skincare.

We intentionally chose a slower approach.

The process allows us to thoughtfully pair different botanicals with the type of product we're creating.

A facial formulation might feature botanicals such as hibiscus, rosehip or calendula, while a shampoo bar may begin with a completely different botanical infusion featuring ingredients such as rosemary, nettle leaf or horsetail.

This is part of what makes our products feel more like something created in an old-fashioned botanical apothecary than something coming from a large production line.

From Infusion to Finished Skincare

The botanical infusion is only the beginning.

After the infused tallow has been strained, we can pair it with complementary ingredients depending upon the formula.

Throughout our collection, you may find ingredients such as:

Jojoba oil — a lightweight oil commonly used in facial and body skincare.

Rosehip oil — a popular botanical oil found in many facial formulations.

Squalane — valued in modern skincare formulations for its lightweight, silky feel.

Sea buckthorn oil — a richly colored botanical oil used in some of our specialty facial formulations.

Castor oil — used in selected soaps, balms and other formulations.

Vitamin E — included in a number of our oil-based formulas.

Bakuchiol — a botanical-derived cosmetic ingredient that we've incorporated into selected facial products.

We also formulate with rich plant butters such as mango, hemp, coffee, avocado and shea butter depending upon the product.

The result is not one universal tallow recipe.

Each Hightower formula has its own purpose, texture and botanical story.

Botanical Tallow Skincare for the Face

Some of our favorite botanical combinations are found in our facial products.

One example is our Hibiscus & Rosehip Infused Tallow Facial Soap.

We begin with botanical-infused tallow and combine it with ingredients including hibiscus, rosehip, hemp butter, mango butter, coffee butter, jojoba oil, rosehip oil, castor oil, vitamin E and bakuchiol.

Instead of creating another ordinary cleansing bar, we wanted this formula to reflect the same apothecary philosophy behind our creams and balms.

It's skincare made intentionally—from the infusion all the way to the finished bar.

Why You'll See Different Botanicals in Different Hightower Products

We don't believe every botanical belongs in every formula.

Rosemary makes sense in some of our hair and body formulations.

Hibiscus and rosehip are beautiful additions to facial skincare.

Calendula has a long history of use in traditional herbal preparations and appears throughout our apothecary.

Frankincense and myrrh bring another layer of botanical tradition to several of our specialty infusions.

Instead of creating dozens of nearly identical products with different scents, we're building collections around thoughtfully selected botanical combinations.

Small-Batch Tallow Skincare Made Differently

Hightower Tallow Co. isn't a mass-production skincare company.

Our products are handcrafted in small batches, which allows us to remain closely connected to the ingredients and the process.

From selecting botanicals to preparing an infusion, straining the tallow and creating the final formulation, there's a human hand behind the product.

That's something we never want to lose as Hightower grows.

Our Botanical Apothecary Is Still Evolving

One of the most exciting things about working with botanicals is that there is always more to learn.

We're continually exploring traditional ingredients, refining our formulas and developing new botanical combinations.

You'll see that evolution throughout the Hightower collection.

Some products may feature familiar botanicals such as rosemary and calendula, while others introduce ingredients you may not have encountered before.

We'll also be using this journal to explain those ingredients individually—what they are, why they're used in skincare and why we've chosen them for particular Hightower formulations.

More Than a Trend

Tallow may be experiencing renewed popularity, but our goal isn't simply to follow a skincare trend.

We want Hightower Tallow Co. to become known for something much more specific:

Botanical-Infused Tallow Skincare.

Traditional ingredients. Thoughtful formulations. Slow botanical infusions. Handcrafted small batches. And an apothecary that continues to grow one formula at a time.

Welcome to Hightower Tallow Co.

Hightower was built slowly, just like our botanical infusions.

Our work is inspired by 2 Samuel 22:3 — "God is my high tower."

That verse became more than part of our branding. It represents the faith and intention behind the company we're building.

We hope that when you receive a Hightower product, you can see and feel the thought that went into creating it.

Welcome to Hightower Tallow Co. — Botanical-Infused Tallow Apothecary.
